The President of Westminster College is appointed by the Board of Trustees. The President Search Committee, comprised of representatives from across campus, will screen and interview candidates before making an official recommendation to the board.
Presidential Search Update
Before Thanksgiving break the Westminster College President Search Committee had a productive first meeting with our search firm, Isaacson Miller. This was a “calibration” meeting during which we reviewed information about individuals who have thus far expressed interest. The meeting also helped us “calibrate” the types of candidates we want to continue to recruit. Over the next few weeks, Isaacson, Miller will be having follow up interviews with the individuals with whom he Search Committee was most excited, as well as continuing to augment the pool of candidates, with a particular focus on culture, values, diversity, and inclusion.
To date, Isaacson, Miller has reached out to more than 300 individuals. The Search Committee saw the complete list of these names, which included nearly 20 suggestions from the Westminster community. I encourage you to continue to submit suggestions, either for potential candidates or sources, to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Search Committee also finalized the Opportunity and Challenge profile, and Isaacson, Miller is sharing it widely. A shorter advertisement has been posted to the following: Chronicle of Higher Education online, Diverse Issues, Hispanic Outlook, Inside Higher Ed, Women in Higher Ed, Insight into Diversity, and Vetjobs.com. Please feel free to share the profile with anyone you think might have an interest them self, or with anyone who might know suitable candidates.
The Search Committee and Isaacson, Miller will reconvene in mid-January to continue to review all of the applications and to select a group of semifinalists to be interviewed at a confidential, offsite location in late January. Following those interviews we will narrow the field to a few finalists, who will meet with a broader group of stakeholders including students, alumni, faculty, staff, administration and Trustees in a confidential session. The Search Committee will use the feedback from this expanded pool of interviewers to help make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees. We are on track for a Spring appointment.
I am very pleased with the progress to date. Credit for this goes to Isaacson, Miller and the members of the Search Committee. I am thankful to all of them for their hard and thoughtful work. As always, if you have questions please feel free to reach out via this web site, or contact me or any of the Search Committee members.
