Westminster Griffin "Trips" with New Admits

New interactive admissions campaign engages incoming students on Facebook

SALT LAKE CITY – Move over Flat Stanley, it’s time to trip with Griff!

Many students who will enter college in fall 2011 had fun as elementary students gathering photos of Flat Stanley in various locations. Now, Westminster has replaced Stanley with its lovable mascot, Griff the Griffin, and is encouraging new admits to post photos of themselves with Griff to the college’s Facebook page as part of the “Trippin’ with Griffin” project.

“The purpose of the project is to help incoming students build relationships before they get to campus so their transition into college will go more smoothly,” explained Dana Simmons, brainchild of the project and director of e-marketing and outreach. “If we can help students get to know each other before they get here, the first few days on campus will hopefully be a lot less stressful.”

To help Griff meet the Class of 2015, Westminster’s Admissions Office recently sent out hundreds of paper Griffins with instructions on posting photos of themselves and Griff to Facebook. To encourage participation in the project, all eligible students who submit their photos are automatically entered to win a Flip MinoHD video camera.

Thus far, Griff has been spotted hanging out with students from as far east as Massachusetts to the West Coast of California. He hopes to have a chance to meet all the students by the beginning of the fall semester.

Trippin’ with Griffin will run until August 31, 2011, so students have plenty of time to post their pics. To see where Griff has been recently, check out www.facebook.com/westminsterslc.
