Westminster to Graduate 800+ during 2010 Commencement
Ceremony to be held May 29 at 1:45 p.m. at the E-Center

SALT LAKE CITY – More than 800 Westminster students will receive their degrees during the college’s annual commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 29 at 1:45 p.m. at the E-Center. Approximately 470 undergraduates and 340 graduate students will participate in this year’s event.
The Class of 2010 includes students ranging in age from 19 – 59, and is made up of students from 32 U.S. states and 19 different countries, including Albania, Australia, Bosnia, Bulgaria, France, India, Japan, Jamaica, Mexico, the Philippines and Togo.
The largest number of degrees will be awarded in the areas of nursing, psychology, communication, marketing and English. The Class of 2010 includes the college’s first-ever graduates from its innovative Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) project-based degree completion program, as well as from the Master of Accountancy and the Master of Public Health programs.

Commencement Ceremony

Jim Leach, chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities and former congressman, will be the honored speaker for the college’s commencement ceremony.
Leach served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 30 years representing southeastern Iowa. He chaired the Banking and Financial Services Committee, the Subcommittee on Asian and Pacific Affairs, the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, and co-founded the Congressional Humanities Caucus. After leaving Congress, Leach returned to academia and joined the faculty at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School, where he was the John L. Weinberg Visiting Professor of Public and International Affairs. He also served as interim director of the Institute of Politics and lecturer at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In July of 2009, President Obama nominated him to serve as the ninth chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Leach will be presented an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree at the commencement. Westminster’s 15th president, Peggy Stock, will also be honored with a Doctor of Education degree.
