SALT LAKE CITY – The Westminster College Alumni Program announces the opening of a new art gallery at The Kim T. Adamson Alumni House. The Alumni Art Gallery will regularly feature art exhibits by Westminster graduates in the Great Hall of the newly-opened alumni house. The exhibits will change each semester and are open to the public at no charge. The Alumni Art Gallery is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Currently on exhibit through September 2009 is the work of Trent Thursby Alvey, a BFA graduate of the Westminster Class of 1987. Entitled Out of Africa, Alvey’s work includes mixed- media paintings from her travels to Namibia and Botswana 2003 to 2008.
Alvey is a mixed-media artist who uses painting, sculpture, light and sound technique in the creation of her work. Alvey’s sculptural work, Toaster Worship, is part of Utah Museum of Fine Arts’ permanent collection, as well as Salt Lake County’s. Her recent group exhibitions include Present Tense: a Post 337 Exhibit, Salt Lake Art Center and SHELF LIFE: Preserving Artifacts at Art Access Gallery. Alvey’s large-scale paintings and assemblage work are an ongoing investigation into the overlap between personal lives and the larger web of creation. During the 2008-2009 Alumni Mentoring Program, she mentored Jennica Sheets, a 2009 graduate who will exhibit at the Alumni Art Gallery in the fall semester.
